Bacardi Limited donates $50,000 to Japan earthquake and tsunami relief efforts

Hamilton, Bermuda, April 6, 2011 – Bacardi Limited, the world’s largest privately held spirits company, today announced a $50,000 donation to Japan Platform to aid in the emergency humanitarian aid organization’s disaster relief efforts in Japan. Japan Platform (JPF) was created to support refugees and disasters worldwide and is comprised of a consortium of 32 Japanese NGOs, businesses and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of life and concerned about the thousands of Japanese people whose lives have been forever impacted by one of the most catastrophic disasters in the country’s history,” said Séamus McBride, President and Chief Executive Officer of Bacardi Limited. “Disaster relief assistance is part of our Philanthropy and Community Involvement mission to provide assistance to those in the communities where we live and work and our hearts and thoughts for recovery go out to our employees and their countrymen and women during this time of uncertainty and distress.”
Bacardi Limited is also encouraging its more than 6,000 employees in 16 countries to contribute to Japan Platform relief efforts as the Company will match individual employee donations up to a total of an additional $50,000.
Social responsibility has always been a foundation of Bacardi. Company founder and BACARDI rum creator Don Facundo Bacardí Massó began this commitment when he volunteered to be the chief organizer of disaster relief in his hometown of Santiago de Cuba after a devastating earthquake.
