A heritage rooted in innovation
Since its creation, BOMBAY SAPPHIRE has taken an innovative approach to gin making - one of the secrets to its success. It is based on a 1761 recipe created by pioneering English distiller Thomas Dakin. To this day BOMBAY SAPPHIRE continues to be made using the artisanal Vapour Infusion distillation process, which we believe has been used by the Dakin family since 1836.
BOMBAY SAPPHIRE was also the first premium gin to showcase the importance of its 10 botanicals, which are hand-selected from exotic locations around the world by Ivano Tonutti; BOMBAY SAPPHIRE Master of Botanicals.
Launched in the 1980’s to capture the imagination of an American audience, the striking translucent blue glass bottle completely rejuvenated and reinvented the gin category and is celebrated to this day.
The stand-out bottle merged sleek modern design with colonial imagery harking back to UK gin heritage, including most prominently, Queen Victoria.
Creativity at its heart
Creativity and beauty has long been at the heart of the BOMBAY SAPPHIRE story. From its artisan Vapour Infusion distillation process to the careful selection of the 10 exotic botanicals and with its inspired blue bottle recognized the world over BOMBAY SAPPHIRE inspired the design community to create and explore. The advertising theme “Sublime” is a natural expression of our 'sublime' heritage; our aim is to create wonder and inspire consumers to either rediscover BOMBAY SAPPHIRE or reaffirm their choice.

Master Distiller Nik Fordham is rightly proud of the stunning development “The renovation of such a historic site into a modern distillery embodies the care, skill and creativity that make Bombay Sapphire the successful brand and high quality gin that it is today.”
Laverstoke Mill has an amazing history as, for more than 200 years, it produced high quality paper for the banknotes of England and the British Empire. Bombay Sapphire celebrates this heritage and is also drawn to Laverstoke by the natural beauty of the site.
