Bacardi Limited
Bacardi Limited Bacardi Limited As if foretelling the future, a short while after the triumph of the Cuban revolution on New Year's Eve in 1958, the coconut palm planted in front of the distillery in 1862, withered and died. Shortly thereafter, in October of 1960, and mid-way during the construction of a new facility in Recife, Brazil, Cuba's totalitarian regime illegally seized Compañía Ron 'Bacardi' S.A.'s assets in Cuba. The loss amounted to more than $76 million dollars (calculated at a 4.3% compound annual growth rate the loss was in excess of $415.5 million) and 90% of the Company's volume.

Starting again with factories in Mexico, Puerto Rico and another under construction in Brazil, from 1960 onwards the Company's growth was nothing short of remarkable. New facilities and offices were built in the United States (1964 & 1976), Bahamas (1965), Canada (1972), Bermuda (1972) and Spain (1974).
